Wednesday, May 18th
The sky is overcast and the wind is howling even in our tiny harbour. After a little while we decide to sail out anyway. That's a mistake because in the open the wind is really strong. But more worse are the high waves created by the wind. Our boat sways back and force, down in the cabin it bangs and clatters. But I couldn't care less because I am not far from throwing up. After 1 ½ hours we reach the shelter of the islands offshore Dubrovnik. After a break of half an hour we head for Dubrovnik. Luckily the wind has slowed down and the waves are not as high anymore.

The ACI Marina is located in fjord like valley outside Dubrovnik. During the war 1991-95 the place was almost destroyed and is still under the process of rebuilding (or again?) The showers in a container are clean but rather small. That's ok for now but I don't want to know how it looks like in peek season.

Thursday, May 19th

The local bus takes us to the old town of Dubrovnik in fifteen minutes.

During the war the city was heavy under fire and more than 400 roofs have been damaged. But the destruction is hardly visible anymore. Most of the roofs have a bright brick-red colour - means these roofs are new.

The walk on top of the old city wall is a MUST.

The city is overcrowded by tourists mostly Americans from the US. Florida must be deserted!

Friday, May 20th

The wind is howling all night. Every minute a gust of wind crashes down, it is impossible to sleep. The plan for today was to proceed but the forecast doesn't sound good. Why should we do this to ourselves? Apart from the wind the weather is beautiful - clear blue sky - but VERY cold, by now we would like it warm!

Because of the weekend more people use the marina. The showers in the container are an unreasonable demand especially because of the high prizes they ask.
