Saturday, May 21st
The night isn't as bad as the one before (only every three minutes a
gust of wind
). The weather forecast sounds reasonable. When we
are in the open sea we have real nice wind to go under sail for several
hours - for the first time!
In the Stonski Channel is an oyster farm,
of course that is something for Rainer.
The oysters are taken out of the water right
in front of our eyes. They are as fresh as it can be. Even I like them!
For main course we have steaks - the best
food since we started our trip.
The tiny Kobas-Bay houses six families.
There are two small restaurants. But no competition fighting for the
guests, even the hosts themselves visit each other.
Next to us lies the "Alfadur",
a 48 feet aluminium boat. The skipper is a real sea dog, 79 years old,
very funny and full of stories. At least one of them is true: The "Smart-Car"
in his bow. With a hydraulic system it is heaved up and peeps curiously
across the deck.
Sunday, May 22nd
Today Rainer mounts his TV because the Formula 1 Grand Prix Race takes
place in Monaco.
Monday, May 23rd
Today we celebrate our 36th anniversary. The day starts good, the wind
suits us and we head for the offshore island of Lastovo, the most western
edge of Croatia. But how could it be different today? Outside in the
open sea the wind hits us right from the back not strong enough to set
sails. In addition huge waves hit us from side - means a real course
for puking. The only ray of hope: two times we spot dolphins.
We reach the Bay of Skrivena Luka just around
seven o'clock. The mooring lines are so low of course we have one in
our rudder. But the helpful man at the pier takes off his shirt immediately
and puts on his fins. Obviously this happens all the time. But we come
free by ourselves and pretty soon we are safe at the landing stage.
Tuesday, May 24th
Skrivena Luka means "hidden harbour" and this name is quite
correct, a small harbour with a nice restaurant. It is a real nice place
here we can easily wait for the right wind and weather conditions for
our crossing to Italy. The island provides nice walks and beautiful
views. For the first time I have the guts to swim in the sea. It is
still cold but once you are in it is gorgeous.
Wednesday, May 25th
At night it gets crowded. All kind of boats with different crews arrive:
Czechs making noise till early in the morning, Austrians with wild pirate
hats and golden striped sailor outfits together with black socks and
sandals
.( I didn't have the guts to take pictures
) and a
German couple just like us on their way to Italy.
Thursday, May 26th
It is only five miles to Ulib, the harbour to clear customs to Italy.
The village and the harbour are rather dreary, and it is dirty everywhere.
But outside the village in the small bays
the water is crystal clear.
To make our stay more pleasant a huge passenger
ferry as well as the car ferry berth for the night in this tiny place
with their motor running al night. We get an SMS from our new friends
from yesterday. They have safely arrived in Italy and will await us
tomorrow.
