Kilimanjaro National Park

In order to get a bit closer to the mountain which we see every day - provided it is not hiding behind clouds, we set out on a safari to Kilimanjaro National Park. Along the road to Moshi trees with bright red flowers are in full bloom.

The parking is situated behind the entrance gate to the National Park so that the entrance fee has to be paid - wether you want to go in or not.

Behind the gate it looks like chaos. It is the start and finish of most trekking tours up Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Volker and Björn chose a different ascent which starts somewhere else.. Their departure was much more relaxed. It is a long way and at least this timewe don't want to go there.

The Park Management charges 30$ each for a 10-minute walk to the waterfall. That is way to much, so Lois and I embark on a little tour outside the park's border with a local "guide". The waterfall seems to carry hardly any water but it cannot be much more even further up. We enjoy our walk, especially because of the flowers. What we consider garden flowers grows like weed.

On the way back home we drive again through this wonderful forest of red flowers. And while sipping our sundowners on the terrace back at the lodge, we look at Kili once more from the distance.
