Marsala: famous for it's wine and - Garibaldi!
Between Marsala and Trapani lie several saltfields connected by the "Via del Sale". This salines might be used since Phoenician times.
In Trapani the Garibaldi Regatta 2010 is just on. The city is so crowded we leave as fast as possible. Outside it is much more pleasant.
The mountain village Erice high above Trapani is certainly worth a visit. Because the road up is closed we take the cablecar and therefore we enjoy the view very relaxed.
We plan a walking day in Zingaro National Parc. Unfortunately the weather is not to pleasant, it is overcast and starts to rain. Tough luck!
A few kilometers in the hinterland lies the ancient city of Segesta. The famous temple and the amphitheater are embedded in the hills and right now surrounded by a sea of flowers.
The area around the village of Gibellina was destroyed by a heavy earthquake in 1968. The new Gibellina was built only after many years. The roads and rest of the houses of the old Gibellina have been covered with concrete and therefore a gigantic piece of art was created. There is huge parking lot with nobody, but to stay overnight seems very macabre to us.
