Tuesday, July 12th
The plan is to go through the Canal of Corinth but the wind is very
strong. We look for shelter in a bay but even here it gets worse and
worse. We try the next one but it is not much more protection. The wind
howls all night and we have to take turns to watch the anchor in the
night.
Wednesday, July 13th
We try again and have to turn round. Wind and waves are too strong.
We drive deeper into the bay of Antikiron. The anchor ground is nor
very good and we have to set anchor three times. After sunset the wind
eventually dies down.
Thursday, July 14th
We start early even with strong wind and waves and puking course. We
don't want to turn round again. At the entrance of the canal at least
the waves are not as high anymore. We are lucky and don't have to wait
too long before being allowed to enter.
Rainer is called "Captain" from
official side. The Canal of Corinth is probably the most expensive passage
of the world. It is Rainer's big dream to make this passage on his own
keel. The width of the canal is 25 m and its length measures 3 nautical
miles. It is really an experience!
On the east side of the canal we anchor in the small bay of Korphos.
No strong wind on this side. Again we have problems with the anchor
and have to change it twice.
