Monday, June 13th
Because the wind hits us strong from the front we head for Crotone
with the help of the engine. From far away we see the monstrous
drilling rigs leading the way to Crotone.
The city of Crotone was once one
of the most important cities of Greecia Magna. The famous Pythagoras
lived here, but most of the ancient places are destroyed.
Tuesday, June 14th
We start very early when the wind is still calm to avoid motoring
against it. Le Castella is a tiny harbour with a very narrow
entrance, just enough room for us and the French boat arriving
after us. The place is very comfortable and nice; we hardly
noticed that there is busy tourist village just a few minutes
away.
Wednesday, June 15th
We like it here and stay for another day. The French boat "Ourobouros"
with Claude and Christine head for the same destination as we
do.
Thursday, June 16th
At 4.30 we want to get up but when we want to get up we hear
the sound of thunder. Tough luck and back to bed. At 6 o'clock
we decide to leave. When our engine starts Claude's head sticks
out of his boat and asks "You go?" Shortly after "Geriatrix"
the "Ourobouros" leave the harbour. All day long we
sail in sight of each other. When the wind dies down later in
the day Claude shouts "I take a little motor"! The
communication between French and Germans works perfect in English.
Lots of dolphins accompany us on
our way. When we reach the next place to berth the wind is very
strong as usual when we reach a harbour! The huge Marina Rocella
Ionica is also one of those Marinas who got stuck in the middle
of construction. There is room enough but no mooring lines,
berthing is no fun by this strong wind. But with the help of
the people already there both boats eventually are tied to landing
stage. We need almost all the lines we got. There is no water
and no electricity but a restaurant with draft beer.
Friday, June 17th
The small city is three kilometres away which means half an
hour walk. Now the temperature is quite high and we don't complain
about cold anymore. The water is very refreshing.
Saturday, June 18th
"Geriatrix" and "Ourobouros" start early
before 5 o'clock. We can set sail for about an hour then the
wind hits us on the nose again. The proposed harbour of Saline
Joniche is totally wrecked and does not look very inviting.
We keep going to Reggio di Calabria. Claude and Christine head
for the Strait of Messina and the West Med. Bye, bye Ourobouros!
Sunday, June 19th
This is the most expensive marina we have ever been and that
with the sight to the autobahn and railway; the showers and
toilets are in a small container!
Domy und Yves landen um 14.30 in
Palermo und sind mit Bus, Bahn und Taxi am Abend im Hafen. Schön,
dass sie da sind!
