It starts with really nice wind from the side when we sail a long the
Gargano.

But then the wind changes direction and hits us from the front. We rethink our plans and go for Manfredonia. The harbour is very dirty, the city nothing special - just Italian flair with uncountable ice cream parlours.

UOf course Manfredonia has a Stauffer Castel like every city in the south of Italy. Unfortunately it is under restauration.

Monday, May 30th
In Trani ist die Welt wieder i

In Trani we have to show our passport and
even get an ID card to be allowed in the harbour area.

Trani has a richly decorated cathedral.
   |
The city appears very pleasant. The houses are ancient; each has nice vaults and a beautiful courtyard.

Tuesday, May 31st
Castell del Monte, the most famous castell
of Frecerico Secondo lies about 30km in the country side. The trip leads
through endless olive groves. The castell is visible from far away.
It was erected middle of the 13th century. The construction is octagonal,
the outer walls, the rooms, everything.

Seven years ago we have been here on our trip from Saudi Arabia. That time all rooms were empty, today there are lots of information about the Staufer emperor and exhibitions - even a very modern one with a chair made out of water bottles or a lamp made out of a washing machine! An alternative way of recycling!

Far in the distance we can see Trani and the sea.

We are almost too late for the market, but luckily we can buy some very small fresh artichokes for our dinner.

Late in the afternoon the fishermen sell their catch in the harbour, but the fishes are very small!

Behind the harbour is a park - cool and green!
