For the third time we try to get closer to this vulcano. This time we come up to this mountain on the north side. We drive for kilometers through black lava fields. The last blow-up was in 2002. One can still see the dimensions of the destruction. But there are already huge new parking spaces. Here we spent all by ourselves a windy night. I have to admit it feels eerie...
But out of the lava some plants fight their way up to the sunlight and a few kilometers down it looks very peaceful. Only once in a while the mountain puffs out a cloud of smoke...
Next morning we take the ferry and are back on the mainland of Italy.
